Abstract

Polymer additives are critical components in modern material engineering, significantly improving the physical, thermal, and mechanical properties of polymers to meet industrial and environmental demands. These additives, including plasticizers, stabilizers, flame retardants, fillers, and compatibilizers, enhance polymer flexibility, strength, resistance, and overall processability. As industries shift towards eco-friendly solutions, recent innovations focus on bio-based, biodegradable, and nanotechnology-enhanced additives to improve recyclability and reduce environmental footprint. This paper explores the latest developments in polymer additives, discussing their functions, benefits, and applications in key sectors such as automotive, aerospace, packaging, healthcare, and construction. Furthermore, it addresses challenges related to traditional additives, such as toxicity, persistence, and regulatory concerns, while highlighting emerging sustainable alternatives. The study emphasizes the integration of green chemistry, smart materials, and next-generation functional additives that respond to environmental stimuli, shaping the future of high-performance and sustainable polymer applications.
