Abstract

While polymer additives enhance material performance, they often present challenges for recycling and circular economy initiatives. This paper investigates the role of polymer additives in recyclability, analyzing how plasticizers, stabilizers, and flame retardants affect the mechanical and chemical recycling processes. The study also explores the development of recyclable-friendly additives, such as depolymerizable stabilizers and separation-enhancing fillers. Additionally, emerging policies and regulatory frameworks promoting sustainable polymer additive use are discussed, highlighting potential strategies to improve additive compatibility with recycling streams.
